Giving Obama the Finger

I figured I’d wait until a little of the emotion died down surrounding this now famous photo of Arizona Governor Jan Brewer and President Obama:

I chose not to jump to conclusions when I saw this photo, as lots of people did, and instead chose to follow the story wherever it would lead and try and determine exactly what happened here and was this really some blatant, public show of disrespect for our President Barack Obama. And much to the shagrin of my friends, I had to disagree with the masses.

#1–I talk with my hands. I am hella animated. So upon first glance that was my observation. Later, in an interview with conservative Fox News, Governor Brewer says the same thing about her “talking with her hands”. And on Fox, where Republicans are exalted like Jesus, and she was free to spew her hatred and flaunt her disrespect, she didn’t. She just told it like it was.

#2–Our President is a smart ass. A smart ass Black man. If you’ve ever dated a Black man, you get what I mean.  If you are one, you CERTAINLY know what I mean.  If you’ve read “The Audacity to Win” by former campaign manager David Plouffe, you learn how the President has a slick mouth, is quick-witted, and takes no mess. So he got off that plane and got a lil smarty arty with Jan! They both admitted it. She was shocked by it and as most animated people do, tried to use her physical cues to deflect her shock and embarassment.

Was it disrespectful? I say no. President Obama is our President, yes. And he deserves the utmost respect of the people. Definitely. But if we are a country that people cannot express their displeasure with our government or its leaders, then we cease to be a democracy. And let’s not even talk about the blatant disrespect people showed George W. Bush (with his dumb self) constantly berating his poor command of the english language and educational background and many many other things that irritated those of us who knew he should never have been President.  I was in line behind many of you talking much shit about Dubya. And none of you were protesting and calling anyone. You were nodding and co-signing.  As was I.  But now because we love Barry O like a fat kid loves cake, we want to riot in the streets. C’mon son. Should anyone put their finger in anyones face, president or not? Probably not. Was it worthy of the 30,000 phone calls to Jan’s office? Probably not.

And the takeaway from all this?

I’m glad Jan pointed that finger at President Obama because it got ALL YA’LL TALKING. She should’ve been shaking it at half the people who jammed her office phone lines the day this photo was released. Maybe that would get those thousands of people to get off of their butts and register a voter, drive an elderly woman to the polls, or pound a campaign sign into the yard of a supporter. So many people will have been distracted by this Red Herring, the media’s smoke and mirrors routine, drawing you in, begging you to pay attention to the salacious nature of this FAKE DRAMA, and causing you to take your eyes off the prize. Calling Jan’s office to talk about “respecting” the president WILL NOT GET HIM RE-ELECTED. So get OFF the phone, stop falling for that banana in the tail pipe, and get to WORKING to re-elect President Barack Obama.

Oh if you didn’t already know. I’m a Democrat. A full-fledged Obama Supporter. And I approved this message.

About Sweet Nothings

I went to college and majored and Mass Communications/Public Relations but decided to take my passion for promoting others to law school....where i could then learn to promote MYSELF! Kidding. Kind of. Now I'm a lawyer. 8 years later, big whoop and womp womp.

Barry O! I love it!!! Lol. And you’re absolutely right. We have to get off our butts and get this man re-elected. Great post!!!!! However, I still don’t think she should’ve put her finger in his face. Animated or not, it was outta line.

I think it was disrespectful because I don’t think she would have done it to Dubya BUT I do agree many of us Dems disrespected Prez. Bush and if given the opportunity would have done it in his face so it is very hypocritical for some folks to be sooooo up in arms. But great post for us beyonce neck rolling, jazz hands waving, articulate folks who just can’t seem to keep still.

    • As I give you two snaps with a twist (can’t touch this)! And I agree that folks think they can treat Barry O any kind of way hence the blatant disrespect he is shown by the Tea Party folks and others. I just don’t think this was the one we needed to dig on. Two words: Red Herring. (I need to go add that oh so important phrase to the blog.) The best thing learned at TLS 🙂

I do think that this is the President of the United States and she should not have put her finger in his face or been heated with him. There is a respect lacking in her actions. Like when your in Court you have to rise for the judge and call him or her “your honor.” This is the President!!! No finger wagging – thank you.

  4. Great post, Bourg. I’ll leave my comments at that.
